Liyun 20th birthday

Went for dearest Liyun 20th birthday. I am so jealous of her life. She had everything any girl could possibly ask for. Pretty face, nice body, handsome boyfriend and golden spoon in her mouth. Her 20th birthday celebration is much extravagant then an average girls 21st celebration. They had catered a buffet spread in addition with the usual barbecue. Her birthday cake was not the typical square or circle shape cake, but a four layer tier plate with colourful mini cupcakes on it. Good creativity on their part.

Me + Cheryl + Liyun + Latha + Joyce. Friends forever.

Now for Jocelyn's ultimate bitching time. So the last shuttle bus for NSRCC, the venue of Liyun's party, was at 10.30 pm. Not wanting to miss out the last transportation back, we dutifully do our homework to learn and remember the shuttle bus timing. We also dutifully waited at the designated bus stop reaching ten minutes earlier. So what reward do we reap? We missed the bus.

Being girls, we seated at the bench facing towards the road, chatting our life away. Little did we noticed that the bus had already arrived on our right separated by a divider created. So it appeared to me that the management or the architecture or the bus driver had interesting sense of common sense. Somehow, we were all supposed to turn our heads unnaturally 90 degrees towards the right while seated on the bench. Not until that we heard the bus engine roaring then did we realised that we missed the bus. Couldn't he horn towards us before he leave? Is that so difficult?

I was not fuming, till I chance upon this. Fortunately or unfortunately, the bus was blocked by its own security gantry. In order for his problem to be known, he wind down his window to get his need across the guard house. Just then we grabbed the opportunity and yelled for him to let us up. When the barrier was lifted, he bluntly ignored us and drove away. Spare me the crap that he did not heard us. As the saying goes, 2 IJ girls made up a market, needless to say 4 of them. All of us had undergo daily training to project our voices across, as you see our canteen is often noisy and in order for us to compete drown each other voices down, we had to scream. Even the passengers on board had heard us. I take it as a compliment for not noticing us, we must be that small size.

That is not all. I stomped towards the guard house to make my problem known. Instead of appeasing me, saying things like, "I will feedback to the office tommorrow." He replied, "Mdm, it is not my job. I am here just to answer your questions." He ignored me completely and turned to the next person in line.

Like hello~ Do you need me to tour you around biopolis? Your shuttle bus service and security guard is hardly half their standard. You do not even have the basic of having a compassionate. I believe there is no excuse in this.

On a side note, look like our girls innate ability had lost.

Baby xandon

Having to miss baby Xandon first month party due to examination preparation, we made it up by having a lunch meeting. It was also about time that we do some catching up with each other life. After all, those were the girls that watch me grew up. Irene in particular was anticipating this day, she hardly able to keep her excitement contained. If not because we were bounded only to our little digits to do the talking, I can imagine her shouting and yelling across. Every word she text screams anxiousness and happiness.

Sailatha and me were the first to arrive, followed by mummy Abigale. Despite being a mother of two, she is still remains skinny to bones. I see no reason why I should be heftier then her. Sailatha had a lot to say on how Abigale handles her child. She had her baby wrapped in a sarong and sling across her neck, both her hands were swinging away from her body as she strides towards us. The sarong that she wore appear to be more like a fashion accessories than to hold a baby within.

Next we walk towards Abigale apartment. We wanted to visit her first son Xander in his playgroup but was deterred as the young ones had been put to sleep. Just then Abigale was teaching her little precious to greet us as aunties. I protest in horror. Sailatha was all fine with the nomenclature thinking that it was the right way as we were young ladies above 20. To much surprise, Irene felt that granny sounds like a better word. Don't know what frequency their mind work on.

Count yourself lucky little prince! It was the first time I carried a month old baby.

Goes snap

It was so long and so much that I already lost count on how many wounds I had nursed. The scars were barely healed before you stab it over and over again. I had any idea how many streams of tears did I flow. The thought of it could send fear in me and preoccupied my mind, leaving little space of my own. Worst, my mouth was sealed with my own iron clad, leaving my grief soul trapped. When will this ever end? I dread the cycle.

Sometimes you are one little darling, making me forgo the past and believing you once again. However just in a split second, you might just transformed into another person. That person, in my opinion, is rather self centered and will not think in another party perspective. It make me feel that all the goodness happen previously is just a facade and illusion. The faith harbor just shutter instantaneously.

For now, the wall around me had been formed. As attack is always the best defend, the only mechanical protection left for me is to not care about you. Trust me, it pains me, but I was forced.

Blood donation drive

I was at Douby train station with my friend, taking the escalator up the gantry. I somehow had this hinge that blood donation drive was around the corner. This trigger my memory back to two years ago when I was rejected as a blood donor at the same location. As the platform above is within my sight, I peered towards the left, only to be disappointed. It was the usual booth that persuade commuters to apply for a credit card. When I reached the platform, I turned my head towards the right, it was indeed the blood donation drive. It must be fate.

Since I have spare time to kill before my next movie screening with my friend, I decided to give it a shot. This time round it was a chemical test instead of a meter to determine the iron level. I have no idea whether is it the lack of sensitivity of the good old chemical test or the healthier blood count in me, I passed the final test. Soon, I was ushered to this reclined chair and the nurse help me to laid the blanket over my legs. I felt so uncomfortable for his nice gesture as I am not paying for his services. He brief me on what I should do if i encounter any problems thereafter and double check my particulars ending with 'O minus?'. 'No! O pos, isn't it?' I exclaimed. 'I don't know, hang on.' he smiled. Whilst my blood group was being questioned, I wondered if rehesis antigen could really be changed. I began having flash back of my previous laboratory session in tertiary school where we had to do four chemical test to determine our blood group. The results clearly shown that I was rehesis positive. After being check, I was surrounded by nurses while they were being brief that the markings on my paper stands for low iron count and not O negative.

The time had finally came. Firstly, the nurse injected me with a 2mL syringe of painkiller. Ironically, it was the injection of painkiller that was the most painful. It was within the tolerable range, just a little bit more painful than normal injections. Next, I was injected with the real thing. Surprisingly, it does not even feel a tinge. Three 5mL tube were then drawn from my blood bags. Comparing to others, my blood seems to flow much slower . The nurse say it was due to lack of water. At the end when my blood slows down, I began to feel a little bit discomfort from the needles in my arm as I squeeze the stress ball. After dressing up with pink bandage, I had a small refreshment before taking photo to keep memories.

The nurse there are really very professional. Always smiling and always on high alert. There was this nurse that spotted this agitated guy and stop his blood donation process prematurely although he claim he was fine. Another nurse quickly to dress him up, while another recline his chair further. The whole process was light hearted as I know that I am doing a good deed. The small bit of suffering was very worthwhile. I will donate again.

Evidence! I know you can't believe.

I haven't been to touching this site for 8 weeks. 8 weeks, this number wasn't pluck randomly out of my brain or through calculations, but it had been 8 weeks of school term. In another words, I haven't been blogging since university starts. I had a lot to say about my experience in hostel, my thoughts on school environment, the lecture, the workload but simply I do not have time to pen my thoughts. Life here was pure hectic. I do not comprehend why the lethargic in me. Anyway, after this short breaks, I will changed. Futher pushing and improving myself. I know I can do it!

Driving D-day

The day before the verdict day, I was feeling all jittery and nervous. The night before, I even experienced a dream that I was having an usual lesson where I accidentally brushed across a car in the other lane. Thereafter, I had a hard time seeping back into the slumber land.

During the warm up session, I did one round of circuit and drove a couple of streets. Besides the directional change which the instructor suggested me to reduce the speed and the slanted vehicle in the vertical parking, all else was smooth. He gave me tips and granted me well wishes before dropping me off at the waiting point.

In the waiting room, there were 15 others. Young adults compromised majority of the space. There was this lady which took the saying that girls with don on short skirts tend to pass literally. She wears make up and had a sleeveless dress that clad her body. The hems of the dress end right up at the upper thighs. There I also spotted an acquaintance from my Tertiary school, she was coincidentally having the same test time slot as i was. We had small chats in an effort to distract our anxiety. Two ladies beside us eavesdrop our conversation and began to chip in.

Alas, I was called up for test. The first errand was to conquer the slope. I managed to pull the brakes neatly behind the stop line. I did the usual of pressing on to the accelerator and holding on the clutch biting point. My indication to move off was signalled. When all was ready, I realised I do not have the strength to release the handbrake. Just then the accelerometer starts to decrease. How? I thought. If i were to release handbrake now, the car bounds to roll back, granting me direct failure. My foot quickly switch to the brake. After a small apology, I restart the whole cycle, this time using both hands with all the might that I can muster.

Next we did a directional change follow by parallel parking, vertical parking (the one that need to position the car along the white line, crank course and s-course before exiting the circuit to do route 7 (one of the most congested routes).

During the course, I need to go through this road which was having construction after a traffic light junction on the left hand lane. The dilemma came when should one change lane before the traffic light (perhaps the tester might think I am road hogging) or after (which is have limited space). Thank goodness came prepared as the day before I already asked advice from my instructor and did a lane change before the junction. Lane changing has always been my achilles heels but thank goodness there wasn't any car behind.

Along the way, there was this vehicle that was heading left to a minor road. I slowed down and squeeze my vehicle on the left. The mistake came when I forget to down my gear after slowing down resulting in massive vibration of the car.

Next, as I was turning left, there was this man walking in the middle of the road. Upon noticing him, I manage to drove pass him. My tester was not happy with it and he think it is unsafe. He thought that I should make a wider turn as the pedestrian might not notice. He keep mumbling its unsafe and tap loudly on his computerised marking board. Thereafter, he direct me back to circuit without completing the whole course which include u-turn and lane change at the major road. There goes my license I thought.

On the way up, he continue saying its unsafe and I should hold the sterling wheel even the car was stationary (bad habit that I always have). "Next time don't like that ah" he say. Next time? Is it next time during practises or next time on the road I thought. He went to print some paper and talk to me, revising with me on what I should do in future. While doing this, I peer at the paper looking for any sign or hints of my results. Congratulation, i saw. My heart was obviously smiling then. After reprimanding, he turn the paper around and circle the PASSED. I was smiling ear to ear. I had 18 points in total, 2 more points to fail. I knew he was helping me pass by doing lesser course thus making less mistake.

I quickly rush down to the reporting room when coincidentally the safety video that I have to watch was airing at the moment. They direct me quickly to the room while they process my results. After the show, they pass the paper to me individually and I quickly dash up to had my photo card done beating the rest in the queue who were still finding the paper in the pile.

Mere luck got me through. Thanks, tester.

Driving license

Thou officially can drive on the road on 8th August 2009. Previously when someone mention that they got their license, I merely congratulate them with their earnings and could not apprehend why the outburst of joy. I could not further understand why they proudly show their driving identity card with a smirk. Now everything came to light when I share their plight.

The whole ordeal from booking a lesson till to D-day was tormenting, flash backs of it is enough to send shivers down my spine. Booking of lesson was never hassle free. At Ubi driving center (every center works differently), there will be this specific day of the month at 6pm, where you can start booking lessons two months in advance. The earlier you book the lessons, the more available time slots and instructor you can choose from. Lesson booking could be done at the office, through phone or on the net. Easy as it seems, it never was.

When the very particular day came, students were often seen lining up outside the office to had their hands on the slot desired. I ever tried reaching an hour before, just to know that 44 people came earlier than me. So obviously, beside the hour being squander, I had to spend even more time waiting for that 44 people to choose their slot. On the very day, Internet booking is feasibly not possible (even having 100 mbps Internet speed) as everyone else would lag the system and the office would not answer any call. The only options left was to wait.

Time is a factor, money too. My first impression of the office was pay-and-pay. We had to pay for the registration fee, two theory test fee, PDL fee, lessons fee, warm up fee, practical test fee, photo license card fee (the only fee which i willingly and happily fork out). Not including optional fees like, theory lesson fee, trial test fee and etc etc.

Lesson itself was worst, it was rather a demoralizing session. As I was learning a manual transmission car, I had to rack my brain to multi-task at the beginning. Once I even contemplate to switch to auto transmission car, which thank god i didn't.

License is seriously hard to come by. Will narrate on the D-day when I have the writing thoughts once again.

Lena's wedding

Only attended the wedding from the tea ceremony and thereafter, the stories in my perception is as follows. It was 11am and we were all gathered at the brides home awaiting for the bride and groom arrival from the in-law place at Jurong. Meanwhile, we had our buffet lunch and some photos taken. The wedding car arrives at 12pm and tea ceremony proceed as norm.

Aunties and cousins

Almost everyone who involved in the ceremony is in this picture. Picture consist of uncles, aunties, cousins and niece.

The youngsters

After the ceremony, the older generations retreat back home whilst the youngsters had a break at Swisstoel. The newly wed had one executive suite and two standard room to their name. The suite was spacious with living room, dinning room, bed room and two toilets. The standard room was cosy with warm hue and a balcony which faces Clark Quay. Winnie (the oldest cousin) proceed to have a dipped at the pool with the brothers while the rest of us head to Central for a munch.

Me and Winnie sitting on the balcony ledge. Cheers to 23rd June babies (with a big difference in year =x).

Kellie and Adeline sipping their tea. Spot me?

Cousins and niece on the bed

We headed to witness the newly wed solemnization by the pool side.

Us again.

Last but not least, the climax of the event, the wedding dinner. Out of courtesy of Lena, our dinning seats were allocated according to age groups.

As we are in our comfortable skin , all etiquette were ignored. My cousins keep disturbing the poor waiter and waitress that is responsible for our table. When the waiter was serving tea, my cousin claim that the purpose for the tea, was not to quench thirst but to wash all the utensils. He even ask the waiter to verify his theory. Worst, he utter that the waiter was his secondary school friends while peering at his name tag for his name. When he offer us for more drink, my cousin requested for hot coke. When my cousin ask for a change in soya sauce (as ours was spoilt giving a sour taste), he says that the letter "S" inscripted on the bottle represent "sour" instead of "sauce". The rest of the cousin began to chirp in by requesting him to serve our table first. When he was holding the cold dish at the main entrance, my cousins noticed and pointed towards him while exclaiming that our food had arrived. However, due to much disappointment, he served the other table first, leaving us with no food. When he dash back to kitchen to claim more food, we demanded an explanation on how we had no food.

The rowdy us even had a plan up our sleeves. During photo taking, no adults should pop up to join us for photo taking at our table, however, we shall crash into their photo taking session.

In general, the wedding is an extravagant one with great door gift (cute couple luggage tag). However, there is lesser interaction with the newly wed (no solemnization as it is done in the early evening and no singing of praises.) which allow the family and friends to have early night.

Members of our table (bride in long white gown)

Members of our table (bride in purple evening gown)

Last but not least, my favourite picture of the day for the simple reason that almost everyone is in it. Some uncles were sadly cropped off from the picture.

F1 roadshow/ graduation/ IT roadshow/ 23rd June

Some picture and snippets update, in chronological order. Take note the difference in my hair. From brown hair with obvious black hair sprouting from the roots to a lighter brown with orange hue to a faded lighter brown.

F1 roadshow:

Although they still remains a place in my MSN contact list, we seldom strike up a conversation. At the beginning, we might even spew our hearts out, but it slowly dies out. I guess this is the norm for roadshows as the bond forge is not strong. For now, only hope that fate would link us back again.

Graduation day:

Thanks Dian Sheng for capturing the moment. I would also like to give thank to Ying Rui and Adeline who came, appreciate it. Also, not forgetting my all time entertainer, Yixin. She is one clown that make me do crazy stunts on my day hence making it more deeply etched in my brain.

IT roadshow:

Still in MSN, still chatting.

23rd June:

To Yi Ying, Cheryl, Joyce and Sailatha, you girls don't know how happy I was. Your presence already allow my heart to pump with joy. The birthday cake at the end really caught me off guard. Thanks, thanks for everything.

PC roadshow

PC roadshow was fabulous. Work under Microsoft and the job scope was simple. The pay was good and so does the welfare. Boss was good too, dishing out freebies (as much as 68 bucks), give us staff discounts and even increase our pay. The last day of PC roadshow was super high and I seriously have no idea why. We keep competiting with one another voice over the crowd. Also saw some old friends visiting the roadshow. Johnathan was nice to bring herbal tea for me, although it was such a small action, I felt warm and happy. Some nice customer make me happy too. Some keep teasing my weak ability to speak chinese while others ask for my humble opinions on things. Although most of my work mates are younger of age, they seems to be more street smart and mature. Seems like I have to buck up in that sector.

Mum had a successful operation too. She had me dead worried for that day as her operation was delayed for two hours, as her surgeon arrived late.
